SortSites – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2025-10-17

SortSites is a personal bookmark manager Chrome extension. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Data we collect

  • Google account basics (UID, email, display name, photo URL) via chrome.identity, to associate your data with your account.
  • Bookmark content you add: page URL, title, collection/category, and favicon.
  • Usage within the extension: a click count on your saved bookmarks so you can surface frequently used links.
  • Local cache of the above in Chrome storage for speed and limited offline access.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your browsing history, page contents you have not explicitly saved, financial/health data, or personal communications.

How we use data

  • Provide core features: save, organize, and retrieve bookmarks; show favicons; track click counts.
  • Authenticate you with Google and store your bookmarks in your account (Firebase/Firestore).

Sharing & selling

We do not sell or share your data with third parties. Data may be processed by our infrastructure providers (Google/Firebase) solely to operate the service.

Storage & retention

  • Data is stored in your Google Cloud Firebase/Firestore project under your user ID, and cached locally via chrome.storage.
  • We retain data until you delete it or uninstall the extension.

Permissions & why

  • activeTab / tabs: read current page URL/title when you choose to save it.
  • contextMenus: “Save Page to SortSites” right-click action.
  • storage: local cache and preferences.
  • identity: Google sign-in (OAuth tokens; no passwords).
  • scripting: injects the popup UI on demand.
  • offscreen: completes auth/token refresh with a service worker.
  • Host permissions: accounts.google.com for sign-in; firestore.googleapis.com to save/load your bookmarks.

Security

Transport is encrypted (HTTPS). Access is scoped to your authenticated account. Avoid sharing your computer/profile with untrusted users.
